Game Science has received an equity investment from Tencent. Hero Games is still the largest external shareholder.

On the evening of March 29, Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, confirmed that they had obtained Tencent's equity investment. After the change, Tencent held 5% of the shares, CEO Feng Ji held 38.75%, and other members of the team held the remaining 37.1% of the shares. Hero Games was an early investor in Game Science. After the change was completed, we held 18.99% and remained the largest external shareholder of game science. At the same time, Hero Games is also the co-producer of the Game Science product Black Myth: Wukong.

Game Science was founded in 2014 by Feng Ji, Yang Qi, etc., who constituted former core members of Tencent's Asura project. In the past few years, Game Science has successively launched several mobile game products such as 100 Heroes, Art of War: Red Tide, etc. Among them, Black Myth: Wukong, a stand-alone/console game with the theme of Journey to the West, is the trademark in its console games. The live demonstration of Black Myth: Wukong was first exposed on August 20, 2020, ranking first in single-game video pageviews on Bilibili and single Chinese game video pageviews on Youtube. First. It is worth mentioning that Hero Games has invested in Game Science as early as 2017, and has successfully released Game Science's Art of War: Red Tide - the first mobile game recommended by the App Store in 154 countries and regions around the world.

 

An important consideration for this investment was that the Game Science team hoped Tencent would give more technical support. The team's trademark Black Myth: Wukong is based on Unreal Engine. As early as 2012, Tencent invested in Epic Games strategically and carried out long-term technical cooperation with the Epic team, which had many Unreal-Engine-based projects, and had rich practical experience.
